Performance evaluation of heterogeneous interworking using IEEE 802.21

The present paper proposes an evaluation of an interworking architecture between heterogeneous wireless networks. The architecture is based on the IEEE 802.21 standard for Media Independent Handover (MIH) and uses MIH primitives to provide handover-related information for a handover decision algorithm. The architecture is implemented for UMTS and Wireless LAN technologies in the EXata network simulator. Results are shown in terms of packet delay, jitter and throughput.
