Fractional-slot PM assisted reluctance motors: Configuration comparison and optimization

This paper deals with the analysis of fractional-slot PM assisted synchronous reluctance motors. The configurations considered here refer to high-torque low-speed applications, so that a relatively high number of poles is adopted. As well-known, this is a drawback for synchronous reluctance motors. The aim of this paper is to illustrate how different design techniques influence the performance of the machine. Some typical combinations of slot and pole numbers are adopted to the aim of having a more general result.
