Modeling and Design of a DVB-S2X system

The DVB-S standard is an application of DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) to satellite communications. The standard has several versions to meet different requirements for each era. Each version has its specifications among which factor RO (Roll-Off) and techniques of modulation. The latest version is DVB-S2X which is an extension of DVB-S2. This paper emphasizes a comparison design of a DVB-S2/S2X system by using Matlab/Simulink software. This comparative study is essentially based of the RO (Roll Off) factor and the type of modulation. DVB-S2X uses very small values for the RO factor whose consequences are of gaining spectral space inside the carrier. It also works with the superior modulation techniques called APSK (Amplitude and Phase-Shift Keying). These new APSK modulation techniques used in DVB-S2X provide a higher capacity but require a high-level SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio).
