The Process of Knowledge Harvesting™: The Key to KM

There are several attempts at building frameworks for the emerging field of KM (see e.g. Holsapple and Joshi, 1997, 1998). Critical components of a framework must include the processes of capture, formatting, and sharing of an organisation’s knowledge pertinent to the execution of its most critical processes. We have been developing software that supports KM for eight years. This software has a focus on improving an individual’s ability to perform a critical process. At present, our major thrust has been on a set of processes that we label Knowledge HarvestingTM to capture expertise and put it into a software product so that widespread knowledge sharing is possible.
