Cooperative multimedia streaming in a group with device to device communication

Increasing demand in multimedia streaming has led to the advancement of Internet speed, reliability and other techniques. The 3GPP LTE network uses eMBMS protocol for broadcasting and multicasting the multimedia streaming, still the base station overloading has become an alarming issue due to the growing need of the mobile users. Since bandwidth is scares and limited, many emerging fields such as device to device communication in 5G LTE is considered as an attractive tool to offload traffic load of the base station. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for multimedia streaming in a cooperative group based on their social bonding through D2D communication. It combines several features of HTTP DASH, eMBMS, D2D and RTSP control. With this algorithm, users can transmit and share the multimedia file within the group and can control playback of the streaming traffic.
