Methods of three dimensional registration in the image guided surgery

Objective Through computer-aided surgical navigation system to determine the location of surgery, surgical planning and to ensure successful operation. Methods We have a brief review on medical image registration, have a mathematical description on the registration of surgical navigation, and sum up recently common methods of three dimensional registration. Results The image guided surgery means that computers are used for modeling the three dimensional image on the position of patients in line with medical image and providing the surgeons with image guidance for invasive procedures. In order to unite the coordinate systems of image and body, there exists a need for the registration in the variation of space. The Iterative Closest Point(ICP) is one of the most popular registering algorithms in the registration of point cloud data, which is of simplicity and certain universality. The development of ICP to carry out the navigation assisted procedures could increase the precision on the registration of body markers, make registration easier, and thereby improve the precision for all of surgical navigation system. Conclusion In view of the high precision requirement for navigation assisted procedures, there exists a definite need for development of ICP to carry out these procedures.
