Analysis of Conformal Microstrips Using Discrete Mode Matching Method

A new variant of the discrete mode matching (DMM) method for the full-wave analysis of non-planar multilayer transmission lines is proposed. This variant called GS-DMM uses the general solution of the wave equation in Cartesian co-ordinates and discrete mode matching at the interfaces to obtain an equivalent-circuit representation of multilayer structures. It adapts DMM to non-planar layers in another way than the extended (conformal) DMM (ECDMM) suggested in [l] by the same authors. Both methods are applied to calculate transmission lines having non-planar, differently shaped grounds. The results are compared to each other and to the results obtained with the commercial software HFSS from Ansoft.
