Construction and testing of superconducting solenoid magnet model for colliding beam detector

The problems associated with the design of a solenoid magnet is made as intended for the Fermilab Collider Detector Facility. A small R and D solenoid was constructed and tested. Its design and fabrication is presented with mode of operation described and parameters itemized. The conductor and construction method are detailed with a flow chart for construction illustrated. Test results include graphs showing stress in coil components and propagation speed of normal zones. It seems the whole construction scheme, especially the EFT alumnum stabilized conductor together with its weld joints, is satisfactory for the construction of a large solenoid.
