Passive radar detection using wireless networks

We report the first results of simulation and experiments on the utilisation of 802.11 wireless network transmissions in a passive radar system. Target detection of a range of objects has been simulated and then experimentally demonstrated. Waveform analysis shows that some of the modulations used within the transmission sequence have suitable properties for target localisation. These initial results suggest this technique has a high potential for the basis of a widely available low cost passive surveillance system. (4 pages)
