THE NEW CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY

The French have developed new concretes which can reach compressive strengths of well over 150 MPa. This ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) has been designed to provide designers with a building material unmatched by any other conventional product. UHPC is micro-reinforced with high-strength steel fibers about a centimeter long and 0.2 mm in diameter which provides the added strength. UHPC is ideal for use in bridge construction, buildings, floors and wherever conventional concrete is currently employed. UHPC's very high density allows for lighter, thinner and more durable applications.
