Impact of thermal insulation location on buildings in hot dry climates

Abstract Three different arrangements of building insulation with different thicknesses were studied and evaluated with respect to their thermal performance and their impact on indoor temperature in a hot-dry climate context. A predefined computer program using the transient heat transfer method was utilized as the main research tool. The utilization of thermal insulation showed significant improvement on the overall thermal performance of the buildings. It also showed a significance when locating thermal insulation within the outer side of the building envelope.
