An Analysis of Baseline Distortion and Offset in NMR Spectra

Abstract Analytic baseline functions are derived which precisely describe baseline distortion and offset in NMR spectra. These artifacts are often caused by inappropriate sampling, discrete Fourier transforms, receiver gating-on delay, or filters in use, but frequently are not adequately corrected. Here, the analysis and accompanying experimental examples show that all the artifacts can be easily avoided in routine NMR experiments by setting the acquisition parameters correctly, without using special software or hardware.
