OntheUseofMEMS PhaseShifters inaLow-Cost Ka-band Multifunctional ESAonaSmall UAV

We present a systemconcept fora Ka-bandmulti- functional electronically steerable antenna (ESA)onasmall UAV thatisbasedonusing sub-arrays withlow-loss RFMEMS phase shifters. Ouranalysis showsthatlowphaseshifter losses are critical ifthedissipated radarhardware DC powershould fit within thegivenrequirements. Theresults presented inthis paperalsoindicate thatadequate performance (intermsof2dB ofaverage losses at35GHz)canbepossible toachieve withaKa- band4-bits MEMS phaseshifter design madeonquartz.
