Control of EV/PHEV bidirectional battery chargers in AC microgrids

Integration of electric vehicles into a microgrid provides an oppurtunity to be used as distributed energy storage units. To make such advanced technology a reality today, bidirectional battery chargers of electric vehicles and their control systems, which are a crucial factor for successful implementation of this concept, should be appropriately designed. Microgrid-connected power converters can be grouped into three categories: grid-forming, grid-feeding, and grid-supporting. This paper proposes an appropriate control system for the bidirectional battery charger based on the grid-feeding and grid-supporting control structures.
