Calculation of three-dimensional viscous flows in turbomachinery with an implicit relaxation method

This study developed and appraised a numerical method for the complex three-dimensional compressible flow inside a cascade of airfoils at design and off-design conditions. The numerical method is based on an upwinding relaxation scheme with fully conservative control volume. The fully three-dimensional Reynolds-avera ged Navier-Stokes equation is solved with an algebraic Reynolds stress model. The governing conservation equations and transport equations for turbulence quantities are solved sequentially. Comparison between the numerical solutions and experimental data indicates that various complex aerodynamic characteristics inside a cascade of airfoils are well represented with the numerical solutions.
