LIBRARINTH interactive game to explore the library of the future

This paper describes the design process of the LIBRARINTH interactive game, a demand-driven project based on the library sector input. The main goal of the Marble Maze-like game is to introduce new library services and events in a more fun, entertaining and explorative way. The game should facilitate the library in informing its public that it is in a transition of a traditional content warehouse to an interactive knowledge center and content provider. LIBRARINTH will attract users for the library-of-the-future exploration and by doing that keep them informed of what is going on in the library environment. On the one hand, LIBRARINTH is linked to a mobile application so that participants can consult the information that they collected while playing the game. On the other hand, the library can use the game statistics to discover which information is found interesting by their visitors. Based on this information they can anticipate their services and dynamically adjust the information that is provided in the game. In this paper, we mainly focus on the construction, mechanics and electronics of the maze and on the design of the mobile app, which is the game controller.
