A clinical evaluation of electronic root canal measurement.

Abstract In an attempt to evaluate the clinical accuracy of an electronic root canal probe, fifty-three canals were measured to the apex by means of the device. The teeth involved were surgically removed and the canals were physically measured. In 83 per cent of the canals the measurements were identical. In 17 per cent of the canals there was a variation in measurement of 0.5 mm. Wherever this discrepancy occurred, the electronic measurement was the shorter of the two.
