Developing a Conservation Program Tailored to Area Needs

The metropolitan Anchorage (Aka.) area, with a population of about 185 000, is one of the fastest growing urban centers in the US. The population is expected to double before the year 2000. As a result, present surface water and groundwater sources are becoming inadequate. Water conservation could mitigate Anchorage's water supply problem in the next decade by providing additional time for development of new sources.
