Standards for adult exercise testing laboratories. American Heart Association Subcommittee on Rehabilitation, Target Activity Group.

THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES are intended to apply to all clinical laboratories that conduct graded exercise tolerance testing for adults to maximal or near-maximal levels. Guidelines for exercise tolerance testing for the pediatric age group are being formulated and will be issued separately. While it is recognized that exercise testing of adults is being conducted in many different settings, it is hoped these guidelines will provide minimum criteria to be followed by these laboratories to ensure both meaningful test results and the safety of the patient. The Target Activity Group acknowledges the assistance of the Massachusetts Heart Association Ad Hoc Committee on Stress Testing and Exercise Programs in the preparation of these guidelines.
