Message from the Program Chairs

It is with a great deal of pride and pleasure that we present the Proceedings of the 1996 International Conference on Pattern Recognition to the computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition and neural networks communities. The broad participation of academic, industrial and governmental personnel in this dynamic conference clearly shows the significance and utility of our research and the size of each of the four volumes is indicative of the substantial research in progress. We believe that the excellence of the oral and poster presentations will firmly attest to the high quality of the research being pursued.
