Sample Size Estimates in Permeability Studies

An analysis of field determined permeability data was made that shows how sampling accuracy changes with both permeability and number of samples. An exponential relation was observed between the mean and the variance of permeability data. An analysis of variance performed on the logarithms of permeability data effectively eliminated this relation. Confidence limits calculated from the resulting logarithmic data were properly asymmetrical. Sampling accuracy for successive numbers of samples can be determined for different permeability when the variance is known.
