PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONOF AODV ROUTINGPROTOCOL ON AD HOC HYBRIDNETWORK TESTBEDUSINGPDAs

Thispaperpresents ourworkonthe testbedimplementation ofhybridad hoc network.. In MobileAd hoc NETwork (MANET),nodesareequipped withwireless device whichprovides self-managing andself- organizing capability, evenwhenthereisno network infrastructure present. Ad hochybrid network whichenables mobile nodestoform instant communication withoutdepending on infrastructure network cancommunicate with theother devices through LAN orInternet. The function ofad hocnetworkisverymuch dependent on the routing protocol that determines thepathbetween nodes innetwork. AdhocOn-demand Distance Vector (AODV) isakindofareactive routing protocol foradhoc network. Thisprotocol isthemostpopular and widely usedrouting protocol inresearch and deployment. In thiswork,we reviewand implement AODV routing protocol inatestbed consisting ofsomePCs,laptops (using LinuxRed Hat9.0andFedoraCore2),andPDAsHewlett Packard iPAQ5550series (using Linux Familiar vO.7.2 withOpie1.2). We particularly focus on theAODV-UU routing protocol. We provide packages (bycrosscompiling) AODV for PocketPC(PDA),and evaluate thepacket delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, androuting overhead ofdifferent Ad-hocHybrid network topologies. The testbed implementa-tion result for theaverage packet delivery ratio is99.57%, and theend-to-end delay is1.004 sandtherouting overhead is1,36036 bps.
