Transportation Demand Omotenashi (TDO)

Many TDM measures were proposed at places such as sight-seeing area and commercial district, but not many of these propositions reached the level of execution. There are various reasons for this, thus, it is time to confirm the measures' direction and re-evaluate them. Therefore we tried to suggest a general concept named TDO (Transportation Demand Omotenashi), which implies trying to handle the demand of visitors in a hospitable manner. We conducted a questionnaire survey in a shopping district, we paid attention to the manager side, and analyzed how receptiveness of the measure increased by switching from TDM to TDO. An improvement in the level of receptiveness and satisfaction from the point of view of tourist agencies, was confirmed by switching from a TDM concept to a TDO concept. We set the situation virtually this time, but it is necessary to inspect an effect of TDO when it is really implemented, for instance in a social experiment and investigated it.
