Next Generation Car – Function Integrated Lightweight Structures

Todays and future automotive vehicles have to reach challenging energy saving targets. Further requirements due to the safety, economic and production aspects as well as new and different drive train concepts present a challenge for the development of future vehicles. Within the Next Generation Car (NGC) project the DLR develops holistic solutions for future automotive vehicles in the six research topics ‘Vehicle Concept’, ‘Vehicle Structures’, ‘ Drive Train’, ‘Energy Management’, ‘Chassis’ and Vehicle Intelligence’. The different requirements of future automotive vehicles, like energy consumption, economic and production-orientated aspects, as well as safety regulations call for new lightweight concepts and solutions. The three vehicles have different body in white (BIW) solutions to fulfill the overall requirements for future vehicles and the special requirements of each use case.
