Radiations phantom for handheld phones

When designing antennas for mobile communication systems such as GSM 1800, a need is recognized for analyzing the effect on antenna parameters from both the handset and the presence of the human body. To allow this analysis, both experimental and numerical techniques have been considered: measurements in an anechoic chamber and finite-difference time-domain (FD-TD) computation. By this way, the suitability of the FD-TD method and the influence of a torso plus hand phantom on two substantially different antennas operating at 1800 MHz have been investigated. The results indicate that the way to hold the mobile phone is really important, primarily the position of the hand on the handset and minor by the tilt angle of the handset.
