A CASE OF LEIOMYOSARCOMA OF THE SMALL INTESTINE FOUND AFTER SURGERY FOR A RETROPERITONEAL MALIGNANT FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA

The authors reported a case of leiomyosarcoma of the small intestine found after a surgery for a retroperitoneal malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH). Retroperitoneal MFH and small bowel leiomyosarcoma are both uncommon, especially an association of both lesions that we were not able to see such an associated case in the Japanese literature. A 75-year-old female underwent a resection of a retroperitoneal MFH in 1987, and resections for recurrences in 1989 and 1993. The patient under postoperative observation on an ambulant basis was seen at the hospital because of anemia and abdominal tumor in 1994. After a jejuno-ileography and abdominal CT, partial resection of the small intestine was performed. This tumor was diagnosed histopathologically as leiomyosarcoma.
