H.264/AVC in Mobile Environment: A Review

Low bandwidth and high error rates are characteristic properties of mobile multimedia communication environments. Therefore there is a high demand for higher coding efficiency and advanced error resilience tools in these applications. These requirements have been addressed by the latest video coding standard, H.264/AVC. This paper reviews some of the new coding techniques and error resilience tools that are possible with this video coding standard and discusses some experimental results to demonstrate its performance.
