TWO-DIMENSIONAL CALCULATION MODEL IN TUNNELING - VERIFICATION BY MEASUREMENT RESULTS AND BY SPATIAL CALCULATION. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

Tunnel excavation creates a three-dimensional, time dependent state of stress in soil. A highly simplified two dimensional calculation model has been developed which includes the mean characteristics of the soil-tunnel supporting system. The results thus obtained are compared with measurements obtained from a double tunnel in the Munich underground railway, and from the Hohe Wart railway tunnel. (TRRL)
