Multipath outage prediction for digital radio based on propagation measurements in analog links

Solutions for the outage probability integral are developed, considering an exponential form for the relative delay and three different density functions for the normalised amplitude of the interfering ray: uniform, linear and exponential. The use of these functions is supported by the experimental evidence presented. The expression obtained for the outage probability due to selective fading requires the knowledge of the multipath fading occurrence factor and the of average relative delay, together with equipment characteristics. The application of the method is demonstrated using experimental data obtained in 7 analog links. The links operating frequencies are in the range from 4.0 to 7.5 GHz and the path distances from 40 to 68 km.< >
