Giant Magnetoimpedance of Electrochemically Surface Modified Co-Based Amorphous Ribbons

The magnetic properties, the magnetoimpedance effect and the surface morphology of amorphous FeCoCrSiB and ribbons FeCoSiB are comparatively analyzed for as-quenched state and after electrochemical surface modification in a conventional three-electrode glass cell with a phosphate buffer saline. The pH value 7.3 and the temperature of 37 degC were maintained during the electrochemical treatment in order to simulate the human body living conditions The FeCoCrSiB ribbons show an excellent corrosion stability and high magnetoimpedance response; hence they can be used in magnetic labels detectors. FeCoSiB ribbons show low corrosion resistance but a high enough magnetoimpedance. Therefore, they can be proposed for label free type MI detectors. Furthermore, the results show that the magnetoimpendance effect can be proposed as a probe for biocorrosion and other surface effects.
