Multi-Resolution Modeling: Present Status and Trends

Multi-Resolution Modeling (MRM) is emerging as one of the primary research areas in modeling and simulation since 1990s and is one of the key technologies to the development of distributed interactive simulation of complex systems. First, the history and the purpose of MRM study are stated. Then, the definition of resolution and multi-resolution modeling is given and some related concepts are compared with them. Based on these, the present research status and key techniques of multi-resolution modeling are summarized from the respect of theory and practice. Finally, it is concluded with some promising tendency and significant research directions about multi-resolution modeling research.
