CONGENITAL VASCULAR ANOMALIES OF THE LIVER.

Congenital hepatic vascular tumors are uncommon benign tumors representing only 10%o of all primary neoplasms involving the liver. These lesions usually present in the early months of life and are rarely seen during the neonatal period. Vascular tumors of the liver include capillary and cavernous hemangiomas and arteriovenous malformations. Symptomatic tumors are potentially lethal and carry a high mortality rate due to intractable congestive heart failure with arteriovenous shunting, exsanguination from necrosis and rupture,'-6 thrombocytopenia due to platelet trapping accompanied by massive hemolysis and hemorrhage, and sudden death of unknown etiology.3"13
