Correlation of the components of wind-loading on tall buildings

Abstract The correlation of the three moment components of wind loading on high-rise buildings is studied. Wind-tunnel measurements of two overturning moments and a torsional moment were used to calculate cross-correlations, joint-probability densities and coherence between all three components. Four different building cross-sectional shapes were studied. The overturning moment loading on two rectangular buildings were found to be not significantly correlated. Wind loading on a parallelogram and a triangle was highly correlated between all three components. Surrounding buildings may in some cases increase the correlation.
