Chapter 8 – Change Requests

Publisher Summary When the change form is for dual use, there is usually confusion as to where the engineering organization takes ownership of the problem. A request form is not required, but a list must be made and each request followed to conclusion. Care must be taken to avoid the “compulsive urge” to treat every request as though it were a change. It is best to charter the team to find reasons to reject requests. A high-level management team may be the best team for sorting out unproductive requests. Unlimited engineering manpower is not available so requests should be rejected for lack of manpower. Management should review the product offering regularly and identify certain products that need not be improved.
