Applying the Smart Grid Concept in Egypt: Challenges and Opportunities

With an aging power grid and ever increasing demand for electricity, Egypt needs innovative ways to both generate electricity and manage how to consume it. This creates new challenges and opportunities which can offer smarter ways to manage electricity, from the utility all the way down to the individual consumers. These new technologies will become the building blocks of our future smart grid. This paper reviews the main features of the Smart Grid concept, and therefore discusses some of the main challenges and offered opportunities for applying suitable applications of the Smart Grid in Egypt.
