Simultaneous identification of stiffness and damping properties of isotropic materials from forced vibrating plates

This paper presents a novel methodology for the identification of damping of isotropic plates. It relies on forced inertial excitation of a clamped plate and full-field curvature measurements using a suitable optical technique. Using the Virtual Fields Method, it is shown that the damping parameter is easily related to the curvature field, even on a non-resonant plate. This paper opens a totally new field of investigation for damping identification
