A comparison of estimation techniques for sensorless vector controlled induction motor drives

A comparison of model reference adaptive system (MRAS) and extended Kalman filter (EKF) based speed and rotor flux estimation applied to an experimental vector controlled induction motor drive is undertaken. Steady-state and transient performance of each technique is analyzed and the effects of estimator parameter variation are studied. Experimental results from real-time implementations of both techniques on a purpose built vector controlled induction motor drive are presented and discussed, with reference to practical implementation issues.
