Speech only interface approach for personal computing environment

This paper presents an approach to creating a speech interface for personal computing. The paper discusses the design principle followed in building the speech specific applications and the system architecture required to support them. Further, the paper focuses on the various functionalities implemented in the system to provide an insight to our approach. The applications implemented include e-mail client, media player, web search and a file manager. Each of these applications are implemented in a limited fashion to demonstrate the design principles. Finally, an evaluation of the applications are done to understand the limitations and future scope of the system. The advantage of building a speech only interface rests with the growing trend of wearable technology and IoT devices with minimal or no displays, in these situations approaches such as these would help the users to interact effectively with the devices.
