Interference Cancellation for Cognitive Radio Networks

A cognitive radio (CR) network seeks to reuse the underutilized spectrum of legacy wireless systems and often operates in an interference-intensive environment. In this paper, we review a number of interference cancellation (IC) techniques and investigate their applicability to CR networks for mitigating inter-network interference. We demonstrate that powered by IC techniques, a CR network has the potential to achieve " true coexistence " with a legacy system in a sense that both networks can operate simultaneously at the same geographic area using the same frequency band, without causing harmful interference to each other.
