Energy Levels and Potentials

All living processes involve the conversion of energy for work at the physiological and molecular levels. We could define health as optimal functioning driven by efficient transfers of energy. All processes require energy at all levels. Living systems and health are defined by far-from-equilibrium stability that is maintained by the synergy of systems, organized information and energy, and resilience to return to stability following disturbances. When health is compromised, suitable interventions involve energetic jumps, where the system is moved from one less energetic phase to a higher energetic phase. Health improvement requires the maintenance of the energy, whether or not it is actual energy or support resources, devices, and medicines to maintain the “jump” phase.
