Thereis seldomneedto seekbacteriologicalconfirmation of the diagnosis, although the organism can usually be recoveredfrom incubatinga slice of skin in glucosebroth. There is an agglutinationtest for swine erysipelas;but in Oman thereare no detectableagglutininsto E. rhusiopathire. An intracutaneoustest has been described, in which the filtrate from cultures of the organism are used; but its application to man does not seem to be necessary.
