Investigations into the use of bits as a cathode in ECM

Abstract Electrochemical drilling is normally performed either by the use of bare tools or coated type tools. Bare tools give a tapered hole while coated tools have got their own inherent defects. With this in view, use of bits as ECM tools has been proposed. Experimental results reveal that there is a significant improvement in the dimensional accuracy obtained by the use of bits as compared to the bare tools. It has also been found that in the present case difference in overcut at the top and bottom of the drilled hole is less than 0.5 mm.
