Adaptive PSSDesigned Basedon Low-order Linear ModelforLarge-scale PowerSystem

Inthisstudy, anadaptive PSSusingdata measuredatitsgenerator busisdeveloped. Ingeneral, eigenvalues analysis usingdetailed electric powersystem modelcanevaluate therelationship betweenparameter valuesofPSS andthestability ofthepowersystem. However, itisnotpractical toevaluate thesteady-state stability oflarge-scale electric powersystembythis method becausedetailed information oftheactual largepower systemisnotavailable. Inthisstudy, thelow-order linear modelsareutilized fortheeigenvalues analysis ofthelarge powersystemwithout thedetailed model. A generator with a PSSismodeledasthe5thordermodeltoevaluate the stability. Parameters ofthemodelareidentified byleast squares methodusing measured variables ateachgenerator. The 4thordermodelisalsodeveloped toobtainthe dominantoscillation mode ofthewholesystem.PSS parameters areonlyupdated whentheeigenvalue detected atthe5thordermodeliscloseenoughtothedominant oscillation modedetected atthe4th ordermodeltoselect the PSS whoseparameters shouldbe changed. Dynamic simulation utilizing numerical integration methodiscarried outforIEEJWEST 10-machine systemmodeltoshowthe effectiveness oftheproposed tuning method.
