A premise of this work was that literature from the human resources management field, in particular the literature on personnel selection, would inform the question of how to best select residential child care staff. A major focus was literature on the employment interview, which was at this stage understood to be the central focus of the selection process. An exploration of published material specifically on residential child care staff selection followed from this. A further focus was literature that might inform the choice of an appropriate research methodology.
