A driving circuit for a display device and a data compression/restoration method for the display device using the same are provided to merge and compress data of adjacent unit pixels and store compressed data in a graphic memory, thereby storing the data using a smaller capacity of graphic memory. A driving circuit for a display device includes an encoder(301), a storage unit(302), and a restoration unit(303). The encoder compresses data to be supplied to adjacent unit pixels. The storage unit stores the compressed data from the encoder. The restoration unit restores the compressed data from the storage unit into original data. Each of the unit pixels comprises a red pixel cell, a green pixel cell, and a blue pixel cell. The red pixel cell displays an image of red color. The green pixel cell displays an image of green color. The blue pixel cell displays an image of blue color. The encoder compares bits between odd-numbered red data to be supplied to a red pixel cell in an odd-numbered unit pixel and even-numbered red data to be supplied to a red pixel cell in an even-numbered unit pixel adjacent to the odd-numbered unit pixel, compares bits between odd-numbered green data to be supplied to a green pixel cell in the odd-numbered unit pixel and even-numbered green data to be supplied to a green pixel cell in the even-numbered unit pixel, and compares bits between odd-numbered blue data to be supplied to a blue pixel cell in the odd-numbered unit pixel and even-numbered blue data to be supplied to a blue pixel cell in the even-numbered unit pixel.
