Simulation and Analysis of Uniformity of Illuminance in Indoor VLC System

White LEDs are becoming an attractive choice in indoor visible light communication (VLC) and the uniformity of illuminance is a critical issue in VLC systems. In this paper, we have evaluated the illumination uniformity for three different LED lamp arrangements with varying semi-angles of the transmitter in MATLAB. In all the arrangements, (3×3) LEDs are symmetrically placed on the ceiling in a square room. The first order reflections are taken into account for evaluating the performance of the proposed system. Next, we discussed about the power received at the receiving plane considering reflection from the walls. The simulation results show that there is significant improvement in uniformity with the increase in the semi-angle of the transmitter up to a certain distance limited by the walls of the room.
