Equalizers and Filters

Equalizers and filters are among the oldest signal-processing devices in recording. The technology goes back to early telephony in the 1800s, when equalizers were used to make the output of a transmission system “equal” to its input. The term has remained in recording and broadcasting as a description of any device which alters the frequency response of a transmission channel in any way.
