Estimation of Pollution from Highway Runoff—Initial Results

One of the first tasks in the present effort was to assemble a data base of highway runoff characteristics. In the paper that data base is described, the data are summarized, and best preliminary estimates of highway stormwater runoff are made. The data in the highway stormwater data base are taken from monitoring projects supported by the FHwA and several states. At the present time, there is coverage of twelve sites, with several more to be added as the data become available. There are from 7 to 139 monitored events at each site. The data base consists of three categories of data; rainfall and runoff, water quality, and fixed site.
