The Portrayal of Women in U.S. Prime Time Television

This study summarizes a content analysis of woman portrayals on prime time network television programs shown during the 1992–93 season. This study found that women were more likely to be shown playing minor roles, less likely to married, less likely to be houswives, less likely to be caring for children, more likely to have dark hair, less likely to commit or be the victim of violent crime, less likely to be involved in a romantic relationship, and more likely to under the age of 50.
