In this paper, we propose a novel architecture, that is, multi-hop wireless LAN (M-WLAN). Its backbone is composed of the multi-hop wireless network, where mobile ad hoc network (MANET) technologies are used to support communication between access points (AP). Benefits and applications of this network system are discussed. An architecture and implementation for M-WLAN models are presented. An experimental system is developed to evaluate the performance of M-WLAN.
